The Turrite San Rocco is the easiest route we propose, truly suitable for everyone, even the most timid. Ideal for a first canyoning experience with the family and to introduce the little ones to this activity.
Between the Apuan Alps and the Apennines, we find the San Rocco stream that flows through the dense green forests of Garfagnana in a peaceful and relaxing environment.
Practicable from early spring, the descent is feasible until late autumn thanks to a constant water flow, even in hot summers.
Turrite San Rocco, suitable for all levels
The easy progression and the optional nature of all obstacles make the route accessible even to unsporty people, provided they are motivated.
From the meeting point, we drive our cars up the valley in the direction of Pescaglia. After less than 2 kilometres, we park a few cars in a clearing along the road near the exit of the stream, leaving our dry change and towels inside. With the other cars we climb a few more kilometres to the small village of Focchia where we park. From the car park, a downhill path takes fifteen minutes to reach the Turrite di San Rocco.
Before starting the descent of the Turrite San Rocco, you will receive all the necessary information on safety and progression in the torrent.
Following the course of the San Rocco Turrite stream, we find a series of small gorges sculpted by the flow of water. These recessed areas are interspersed with more open areas. The progression then alternates between walking and diving parts, slides and short swims. Some rope abseils of a few metres are also possible, ideal for getting started and gaining confidence and mastery of the manoeuvre. The dives are never too high and in any case always optional.
The descent of Turrite San Rocco takes place in a wild and isolated yet pleasantly relaxing environment. In some places, the stream has created large pools of clear water that shimmer in the green of the forest. The end of the descent comes suddenly: the stream opens up and before us appears the road with the cars we parked on the way down.
If the Turrite San Rocco experience satisfied you and you would like to repeat it by trying a more adventurous torrent, we invite you to Rio Selvano, the most beautiful and fun canyon in Tuscany.
